Well, the New Year is here. It's going to be a rocky one, that's for sure, so buckle up and try to enjoy the ride :)

At the beginning of each New Year, there's always lots of talk about resolutions. Here's a list of the 10 Most Popular New Year's Resolutions. Do you see yourself in one or more of these?

So what do we do? Do we find the one thing that we seem to be failing at the most and resolve to give it up, scale it down, trim it, etc.? Or maybe work on a small but "manageable" list of resolutions? How long do these resolutions hold up for? We all know the story of how hard it is to find a parking space at the gym in January, but by February not so much!

According to Dr. Sanford Siegal, "A resolution is a false promise we make to ourselves once a year to make ourselves feel less guilty about how we have managed our health, our finances, our relationships and so forth."

I never, ever, ever make a resolution. Prior to 25 years ago, I used to make resoltions: "I'm gonna change this, and I'm gonna change that." And I realized that all I ever did was lie to myself about those changes. Nothing changed! As a matter of fact, I got more INTO what I was supposed to be changing! So I stopped lying to myself about what I was going to change about myself.

To prevent another year of teeth gnashing, I propose an alternative: 1. Don't make any resolutions! And 2. Allow God's will to be done. Just relax and go for the ride. The only thing that God requires is that we realize we're not Him, and that of ourselves we can do nothing. All we are required to do is just be still, and start overcoming the ego. We have to lay down a life in order to receive a life. As you overcome your decisionmaking, your worries and anxieties, you're free so that life can unfold for you.

I encourage you this year, when you go into your prayer closet, instead of concerning yourself with resolutions, worries, or endless requests of God, just be still and know the truth. Learn to know thyself, and when you know yourself, you can overcome anything. You'll find yourself overcoming stress better.

Let me know how that works for you. I've been doing it this way for the past 25 years, and it sure beats the old way!

I really wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy, and Safe New Year! I know things are getting rough out there, but let's lighten the load by chucking the resolutions for good!

In the New Testament, Paul famously said that sin made a home in him and acted through him, causing him to do that which he did not want to do. What is that false identity he referred to? We discussed this during our most recent Sunday Service. Most people believe their thoughts, even if they've ...

Is Eric Holder ignoring a Twitter lynch mob? It certainly appears that way. Ever since George Zimmerman has been released on bail to await his 2nd degree murder trial for the killing of Trayvon Martin, Twitter threats have come "fast and furious". This should come as no great surprise to anyone, ...
